Our system does not run elections and cannot provide legal advice. If y'all are a voter looking for assistance, please contact your local ballot official. You tin can find your local ballot official's website and contact information by using this database from the US Vote Foundation.

40-five states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands offer early in-person voting (this includes states with all-postal service elections). Five states—Alabama, Connecticut, Mississippi, Missouri and New Hampshire—do non offer pre-Election Mean solar day in-person voting options for all voters, though they may offering pre-Ballot Day in-person voting options for eligible absentee voters.

States may use different terminology to refer to early in-person voting, including early on voting, in-person absentee voting and avant-garde voting. NCSL categorizes a state as having early in-person voting if it is available to all voters, and NCSL distinguishes between "early on voting," which functions similarly to Election Twenty-four hour period voting, and "in-person absentee voting," which is when a voter requests, completes and signs an absentee ballot in a polling place. From the voter's perspective, however, the experiences of early voting and in-person absentee voting are substantially the same.

early voting

The time period for early in-person voting varies from country to country:

  • Length:Early voting periods range in length from three days to 46 days. The average number of early on in-person voting days is 23.
  • Start date: Early in-person voting may begin equally early on as 55 days before the election, or as late as the Friday before the election. The boilerplate start appointment for early in-person voting is 29 days earlier the election.
  • End engagement:Early on voting typically ends just a few days before Election Day.
  • Weekend early voting:Of the states that let early in-person voting (this excludes the seven all-postal service states), 23 and the District of Columbia allow some weekend early voting.
    • Saturday: xix states, plus the Commune of Columbia provide for voting on Sabbatum. 7 additional states (California, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, North Carolina, North Dakota and Vermont) go out it up to county clerks who may choose to allow Saturday voting.
    • Lord's day: Half-dozen states (Alaska, Illinois, Maryland, New York and Ohio) let for Dominicus voting. Seven states (California, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, North Dakota and Virginia) leave it up to county clerks who may choose to be open on Sundays. Florida mandates early voting must brainstorm, including Sunday, the 10th solar day and end the third day prior to the election for state and federal elections. Local ballot officials too have the discretion to permit early voting the Lord's day prior to the election.

Statutes and further details are below and includes information about locations, days and hours if bachelor. For the well-nigh part, this information applies to statewide full general elections. Early voting periods for municipal or primary elections may be different.
